How to Write a CV That Gets Shortlisted
Recruiters spend seconds on a first scan. These practical tips will help your CV make the cut.
Your CV has one job: to earn you an interview. Recruiters often scan a CV in under a minute, so clarity matters more than length.
Lead with a sharp professional summary
Three or four lines that state who you are, what you do best and the value you bring. Tailor it to the role.
Show results, not just responsibilities
Replace "responsible for sales" with what you achieved: growth, savings, improvements or projects delivered.
Keep the format clean
- Use clear headings and consistent fonts
- Keep it to two pages where possible
- Save and send as PDF unless asked otherwise
Match the language of the job description
Many employers use screening tools. Reflect the key skills and terms from the advert, honestly.
